Supafest 2012

Supafest is an urban music festival in Australia and it was the first time I attended. I had not planned to go because I'm not really a Chris Brown fan and he was the headliner but my sister's bestie won 2 tickets to go in a dance (aka booty shaking) competition and I really didn't wanna be the one to miss out so I brought my ticket (and was extremely excited to see Missy Elliot, Ice-Cube, Naughty by Nature and Ludacris). Turns out Missy had never confirmed that she was apart of the lineup.  I hate shady promoters and the lies they put out there to sell tickets. She never came. 
So anyways we stood ALL DAY LONG (I'm talking from 11am - 10:30pm without any toilet breaks and only sipping on water to avoid going to the toilet) but it was another chance to dance around with my friends and I repped one of my favourite artists atm MIGUEL and his song ADORN cause I still got that on repeat. Respect to those artists coming out and putting on a good show. Even Chris Brown did his thing. Wouldn't say I'm a fan now, but I'm no longer a hater.

Today my family and I woke up at 4am to brave the insanely cold air to pay respects and remember our brave ANZACs who fought the battle at Gallopoli. Men from Australia and New Zealand went to a foreign land to fight for our freedom. Australian, Aboriginal, Polynesian, Maori and Kiwi's all fought side by side for their country. Thank you to all those who fought. Thank you to the those who still serve our country and to all those families who sons never returned; we are all indebted to you.








They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them. 
Lest we forget.

Happy Birthday Moala

 Hello Wonderful Ones,

Just wanted to share a few pics from the weekend. It was my friend Moala's birthday.

We first met back at college when she was so shy that she brought her scooby strings into my dorm room to keep herself occupied while we (another new friend Chazmyne) we all getting acquainted.

Since the beginning of our friendship we have been through lots (even a little silly fight). She even took the plunge to move over to the other side of Australia to work with me in the outback with my beloved Aboriginal students as a dorm parent. It was a daunting task to become a mother figure to 30 girls ranging from 8-17 years old; but she did it. We learnt so much together being role models to those kids. We would giggle knowing deep down we were just two lost friends trying to figure out what we were doing and how to get over missing the home comforts of family, shops, fresh produce and a social life.

She's the one who fills me in on all the cool stuff that is going down (like the flash mob we did together) and she sent me a book I new nothing about a few months ago and I got to read it and enjoy it before it was released (YES I am a Hunger Games fan). She's the one who will leave little notes all over NYC for me to find because we couldn't get our holiday schedules to match. She's the one who actually sends me real letters in the post. In case you can't already tell she is one of my most cherished friends so HAPPY BIRTHDAY CATHERINE MOALA!


Jycica and I studied the same course at college. We are both Primary Teachers.

We always act a fool when we catch up :)

What she's wearing in Nashville, TN


 It has been forever but I am so overdue at updating my "What she's wearing" posts. Thankfully I managed to stumble across this beautiful girl on tumblr. I didn't know who she was but I LOVED her style and was so chuffed to figure out that she was a follower on my blog. I immediately had to contact her.
This was the pic I tumbld a while ago. Cool huh?




























 So without any further ado, please meet my beautiful friend Dimples; the blogger behind Broke Fatshion.
I love her amazing use of colour and I often look through her photos saying "Oh I like that whole look". Definitely blogger crushing on her style and the overall polished look of her blog. Her blog is quality and worth checking out.

People say that personal style should reflect your personality. So if it's possible can you describe yourself in 10 words?

What is your greatest staple in your wardrobe?
 My vibrant collection of blazers, no wardrobe is complete without a great fitting blazer.

  When you want to "work it" what do you wear?
 I would wear bold colors more than likely some color blocking or throw on some bold and bright prints.

What is something you have always wanted to buy or wear, but have never found?
  neon sheer maxi....I have yet to find one in my size. I have added this on my d.i.y list.

                                                                     How do you embrace your curves?
I wear whatever I want and never leave the house without my confidence. It is the most important thing in your wardrobe. 


Picture this: At the time you wear something and you think it’s the baddest shit going, but then later you’re like OMG? WTH? Would you care to describe if this has ever happened to you?

I have sometimes worn things that later after taking pictures I felt like they did not photograph well but I have never walked out the house...styled up or casual and completely had any regrets on the pieces I have worn. If I have an ounce of doubt I go back to the drawing bored before the mistake is made lol.

What is something daring that you want to introduce to your wardrobe?
 I adore all things vintage and retro and love high waist jean cut offs that I see many people wear. I am not big into wearing short shorts but I love how they look. I just got done making some high waist cut offs and ripping them up. I cannot wait to wear them.


What is the one thing (clothes, makeup or whatever) that transforms you (into sexy you, smart you, confident you or glamour you) when you wear it? 

The last thing I usually put on before leaving are my accessories. I am crazy about accessories I don't follow rules I wear what I want and they put that B in Bam for me, my earrings and rings in particular. I cannot go anywhere even the gym without wearing earrings.

Any tips or secrets you want to share about shopping or plus fashion style?

Most of my clothes are thrifted. If you have not ventured into thrifting its never to late to start. I love finding one of a kind pieces and my best tip to having a great thrift haul, is go when you have plenty of time,and make sure you scan every rack and section. I have had finds from straight sizes and men's section. These finds make up 60-70% of my wardrobe. Thrifting can become addictive and its so fun.

Good Friday OOTD

Hello Readers, Just a quick outfit post from Good Friday. I went over to New Zealand for the Easter weekend. My family had planned a reunion around this time and I packed my suitcase with the outfits I intended to wear with a few back up items (I really hate taking too much stuff....it's such a drag if your luggage is overweight and you have to pay more money at the airport).

SILLY ME didn't really factor Church into the equation. I don't know about your churches, but in all  Polynesian churches (well all I have attended) have a very similar expectation as to what to wear to church. Nothing short and no cleavage. It's basically how I have been raised to dress "respectful". Even growing up around boy cousins, uncles and brothers. I always had to cover up and I have no problem with that.
So when it came to Good Friday my nephew told me that he was in the Good Friday play so I wanted to go and see him. But then I thought "Oh crap, I only have short skirts and shorts...I didn't pack a church dress"

What was I going to wear? I didn't want to get the 'eyes' from all the old ladies. You know that OH NO you DID NOT step into church wearing that-look.

So I pulled out my black skirt I packed for the reunion, a basic black shirt which is oversized (thank goodness for black basics; they always save the day) and this is what I came up with.

This picture was taken after church (an amazing, emotional service with the re-enactment of the Crucifixion of Jesus by the Youth of the congregation) with the view of Auckland's harbour bridge. It was such a beautiful day.

Lenny Kravitz

 Dear Readers,

If you have been following the last few posts, one of them had mentioned my excitement about the upcoming concert of Lenny Kravitz. Well I am so excited to share these pictures with all. Lenny Kravitz and his band lived up to everything I hoped it would be. He is just toooo fine for words. A fine muscian and a very fine man!

We were transported back to our high school days when the Cranberries opened for Lenny....Damn that girl can still sing the shit outta their songs. You all remember them right? *sings loudly* "Do you have to, do you have to let it lingerrrrrrr"
 So anyways here is a pic of my sister and I. We were both kinda bummed because by the time we had enough money for tickets...all the good seats were gone :(  but the guy selling the tickets said that this venue was pretty good and as long you wait behind these white lines you can get pretty close and the security leaves you alone. We were definitely planning on doing this later in the show. The Cranberries were soooo good but we kinda felt like we couldn't really connect because we were so far away. ANYWAYS after their intermission I went on a little mission to suss out the security gaurds (there is always a few that take their job seriously and it is hard to get by them, but then there is always a few who are a little more relaxed and easier to slip by).

I looked down the stairs to the precious "GOLD CLASS" area; each seat fetching nearly $300 AUD and I saw people just carelessly walking in an out. I thought to myself "stuff the white lines, I'm going down to the front" and as I did so I walked right to the front of the stage and spotted my sister way up the back in our seats. I quickly dashed back up to her and reported my findings and we both decided to try our luck with getting to the front.

We made our way down to the front and started talking to these drunk cougars so that it looked like we belonged. When security started checking tickets we sat down and pretended like we were already in our assigned seats. We moved when their real owners returned. I pulled out my fan and sat down fanning myself pretending to be a little "under the weather" so that no one would annoy me or ask me for my ticket. My sister however stood her ground and looked around lost when she was asked to go back to her seat.
"Shit 2 more minutes until the lights go out".

 I called my Mum and had a quick chat for the very same reason I pretended to look a little sick; so that the security gaurd would walk pass me and leave me be. He pressed my sister "I'm not kidding you will have to return to your seat duntill the lights go out!"
10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
 Lights out.
The show begins and we make our way right to the very front of the stage. WE DID IT!
 We savoured up each song as we danced, yelled and rallied up those around us. We were making the most of our own little bit of luck stopping every few songs to give each other high fives enthusiastically as if we'd just won the lotto. It felt like we won the lotto everytime he could hear us call out and come to our side of the stage. It felt like we had won the lotto when he saw our geeky little hunger games 3 finger salute and giggled and it definitely felt like we won the lotto when he sang one of my most favourite songs EVEEEEERRRRRR "cause baby it aint over tell its oveeeeerrrr".
As you can see the bangs didn't last. I was dancing like a lunatic so it all got bundled up quick smart. I can never stay pretty for long :/ But the dancing around is totally worth the sweaty face and sore feet :D Gosh am I happy or what?!


After a 15 minute encore performance and touching Lenny's sweaty guns we walked out ready for the 1.5 hour drive home. "See ya girls" our new friends from the concert yelled. Even though we had to get back to our normal lives in a matter or hours; the exercise routines and jobs that awaited us. we walked away feeling elated at dare I say it......FROM THE BEST CONCERT EVER! Thank you Mr Kravitz and band for a wonderful evening.

mobbed :)

Hello Beautiful People,

So its always kinda been something I have really wanted to do. I have seen them online and thought "Damnnnn that would be so much fun!"....well anyways about a month ago I get a text off my friend saying

Moala: so I know the song is kinda dry but do you wanna be in a flashmob?

Mele: Ummmm HELLLLL YES! Details?

Moala: This guy is planning one to propose to his girlfriend, I met him at a dance class.

Mele: COOOOOOOL what song?

Moala: Party Rockers (I think that is what it is called)


So to cut a long story short, she sent me the link. I invited heaps of friends but when it came to the day only my friend, my sister and I made it there. It was soooooo much fun and considering we are not professional dancers, we do not know each other and we do not live in the same area or suburbs, I think it came together really well.

We planned to go to the back but as it started we were split up ad my sister and friend ended up in the front and if you look really hard you should see me in the back bopping away with my green singlet and purple shirt. If you don't see me then pretend you did because honestly it was one of the most fun things I have done in a while.
