california summer

I received a lovely phone call from my friend Erika this afternoon. She is one of my college sisters and  the main reason we took a detour to California. We just had to see her walk down the isle. While I haven't had the time to get some lovely photos together of the day (it seems all my America posts were put on hold when I started working), It did remind me to upload these pics of what I wore on her wedding day...The actual wedding post will come very soon.

So I had packed a pretty little black dress to wear (I was taking only essentials) I decided that I wanted to find something a little more summerish.....so I was delighted to walk into Forever 21 and pick up this dress for only $23 (from memory)......I adore the bright colours and the light fabric. When I picked it up I wasn't sure if it'd be too simple but the colours, the pattern and the price won me over; and in the end I liked it.

I managed to see some wonderful Frida Kahlo works in New York and when I saw the little flowers also in Forever 21 I thought they'd be cute with the outfit. The hair and flowers remind me of Frida Kahlo and it had been ages since I had braided my hair (so I guess I was subconsciously inspired?). I would not normally do my hair like this for a wedding, but I think the change made me like it more. I just kept adding punches of bright colour with the lips and the bag and I wore my trusty wedge boots because they were the only ones I packed. I figured it's summer so I can go colour crazy!

I thought I'd upload this post because this outfit was new...and I am gearing up to post my BNNM outfits....so excited about it and those that have decided to join me in the challenge. Nothing New? Hell Yeah, let's do this!!

7 reasons to buy nothing new!

Bonjour ladies....just wanted to share with you my first challenge I have chosen to join.
I often see some of my favourite bloggers participate in challenges and I always thought that I would like to do something like that one day..... Well while browsing Fashion Hayley I came across something that I really want to do.... Its Australia's Buy Nothing New Month this October and I'm really excited about it!

Growing up I never had ANY MONEY!!! So now that I am older, I just refuse to pay absurd amounts of money on anything really. I shop second hand for 7 reasons:

So here are my 7 reasons why you should also join in
        and BNN this October

  1. the cuts of vintage clothes are so flattering
  2. the colours/patterns are the bomb
  3. its like a never ending treasure hunt
  4. no one else will be wearing your shit!
  5. it's good for the environment
  6. it's so damn cheap (WIN WIN!)
  7. You could win some money whilst saving money! I think its for Australian residents only :(
On my last visit to the Salvos store in Young, they a $2 garbage bag special....YEYAHHHH my favourite.... I haven't had a chance to wear any of my finds...but as soon as I do, I post them. I am also encouraging all my friends and family members to join the challenge.

I know some of my favourite bloggers a thrift store QUEENS so if you wanted to join the challenge and make it a little more fun maybe you could email me your outfits so I can share them on here with my followers for Buy Nothing New Month in October 2011. I am also wanting to make a video or something so if you are keen....HOLLA!!!

queen of hearts

On the weekend we dressed up for the beautiful Alexandra's birthday. It was so cold so I had to find something that was warm but still in theme. Queen of hearts was easy....a few pack of cards, some liquid eyeliner and lipstick and voila! Dressed to theme in under $10. Check out her delicious sweets.

We had fun dancing around, popping balloons with darts and singing Womack and Womack's "Teardrops". My sister was Pocahontas the birthday girl was the one and only Minnie Mouse and Kate was Snow White. There were various characters but I didn't manage to get many shots of the crowd. Too busy being silly I guess dancing around like lunatics. I love dress up parties. I should find all my old dress up pics to share with you guys. I love doing it on a budget as well. All you need is a little creativity!

Snow White was a little cold. But she looked adorable.

addicted

Hello to all my lovely followers. It's been a while since I have said hello because I usually just ramble on about crap...but I have had a few new recent followers and I wanted to say THANK YOU for taking the time out of your busy life to read or look at what the hell is going on with mine.

Thank you for your lovely comments. They always make me smile and it reminds me that people are actually reading this blog. A lot of time I use this as a record of recent happenings, but I will try to make it a bit more informative, well atleast with the clothes side of things.
I will try to explain my choices and outfits better.

Mele, Alisha and Nini (stay tuned for her feature in my blog...I don't mean to brag, but they are beautiful right!!)

A few weekends ago I met up with my cousins to go watch Jersey Boys for the second time. The first time was a few months ago in New York (trust me, I will never get over that place!) and I heard that Australia had one of the best casts in the world so I just had to compare them, plus it gave me a reason to hear all the songs all over again!!!

It was fairly cold that day so I wanted to be warm (unlike my Melbourne shananigans where I ended up catching a terrible cold due to my lack of warm clothes). I had this top that I had picked up at a thrift store (it probably cost me no more than 50cents because I'm sure this was in a whole bag I got for $3 (I love it when you get those deals, you can shove as much stuff in your bad and only pay $3).....anyways I adored the colour and lines of this top and I thought it contrasted nicely with the solid colour of the blazer (which was also a thrift find).....the colour of the blazer is not my usual choice (I'm all for the bright colours) but I really like this outfit. I think the top and blazer work well and I finished it with my basic H&M black dress and low cut boots. I kept everything simple because I wanted my top to be the feature of this outfit. I also kept my makeup neutral for the same reasons.

Dress: H&M, Boots: Target, Blazer:Thrifted, Bag: Thrifted
Poodle Chain: Borrowed, Top:Thrifted, Beanie: Cotton On

How adorable is the poodle chain? It belongs to my cousin but I was so tempted to 'forget' to give it back....LOL and the bottom of the chain moves as if the poodle is wagging his tail. I must ask her where she got it from.

As for the blog post title....I seriously am addicted to Jersey Boys...I have always loved Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.... Walk like a Man was a favourite since I watched "Heart and Soul" when I was a little girl....but the show is just amazing. You really should go and see it! I was lucky enough to go with my two cousins and my old housemate (I miss our days in the desert!) because our other friend Kate couldn't make it at the last minute.

We finished off by heading to Chat Thai in the city. The wait was a bit of a pain in the arse and the dinner menu is not as good as their lunch menu, but all in all it was a GREAT day out.

Skirt: Kmart, Shoes:Converse, Floral Cardigan:Thrifted, Leather Bag: Thrifted Bangles: City Chic
How cute is my sister! She is still getting her blog together, but you should totally follow her.
